What to expect at DTW
 

Has anyone taken an international flight out of Detroit? We're flying from Dallas to Detroit on Thursday and then from there to Paris.

Is Detroit an easy place to get around/transfer, etc? We have about an hour and a half between flights. Any advice/input would be appreciated.

Detroit has three separate buildings, one for Northwest / KLM, one for everyone else and one for international. You'll need to catch a shuttle outside of the domestic flight buildings to the international. The international is pretty small though.

Kwn, when was the last time you were at metro?
Northwest operates out of a fantastic new (1-year-old terminal) at DTW and its international and domestic are all in there. I assume you're flying Northwest or KLM, so there will be no need to switch terminals and you'll speed thru customs on the way back. Even if you're flying Lufthansa, you leave out of the new terminal.
Plus it's loaded with shops and restaurants.

The new terminal is big (the main concourse is a mile long), so depending on your arrival gate, the connecting gate can be a ways away sometimes. (If you arrive on A1 and leave out of A74, for example), but there's an elevated train that runs from one end of the terminal to another.

The new Detroit airport is definitely world-class. I fly out of there internationally about ever six weeks. You should have a very easy time of it! The only note I would make, is if Detroit is your first point of entry BACK into the US, the baggage is a bit slow. You'll have to go through immigration, collect your baggage, go through customs, then re-check your baggage to your final destination. This all takes place within about a 50 yard stretch. It's easy, and there are plenty of carts.
