Thanks, EnglishOne!
I had to search on google to see what Advocaat was -- I'd never heard of it. I don't think we have it here in the US, but it sounds interesting! |
Dick Advocaat?
|
When EnglishOne said "lemonade", in the U.S. that means 7-up or sprite. And yes, they have Advocaat here now at specialty stores, but I also ran across it about a week ago at Bristol Farms.

Giving recipes for Snowballs has gone way off topic!
Advocaat is an alcoholic beveridge and is not suitable for a teetotaller. Anyway, if in England, you'd be lucky to find a pub that stocks advocaat - let alone a bartender who knows what to do with it. Snowballs have a bit of a jokey-70s reputation in England. |
You did not mention where the pubs are so I am assuming England but I bet my comments would be accurate for Ireland also. I must disagree with the response ira sent you about going to a restaurant as an alternative. You would be missing so much. We went to London and several other locales in the UK in 1998 and I still daydream about the pubs!! Each one has a distinct personality and is a huge part of the UK experience. Don't miss them just b/c you don't drink alcohol.

PJKeay: I gave a snowball recipe to Marly because she wanted to know about it, we are still on the pub/alcohol topic - who are you, the teacher 'marking' the paper?! ;) a little english/ quirky /pub humour/joshing there......
And yes, I know all about snowball being very naff and uncool, but tried to be tactful by saying 'its what your grandma might drink'! Personally, I would rather put my arms in a shredder than be seen with a snowball! (nice mental image there) |
Lots of people go to pubs and don't drink. I am off Alcohol for the next 3 months. I made a bet with a friend they could not do it and even offered to do it with them....so far so good! :-) There are loads of things to drink, minerals(sodas), juices etc and in Ireland you can get a tea of coffee in the daytime and this is not unusual.
