Jenny,
Give Belgium a try, particularly Brugges. It's a lovely, ages old small city that's conducive to walking. Laced with bridges, canals, 15th and 16th century buildings, scads of fine restaurants, I think you'd find it appealing. We were in Belgium in the latter part of July last year, visited Ghent and Louvain and ran into monster street parties everywhere; Louvain (Leuven) in particular is a party town due to its university ties. Think you'd have a most enjoyable time.

Hi, Jenny: Ditto on Brugges, a marvelous medieval town that hasn't changed since medieval times. Another suggestion, since you are in Glasgow: have you been to Orkney? (go look at the standing stones) or Shetland? or what about a flight over to Bergen, Norway and a fjord cruise to Balastrande and spend the night at Kvickne Hotel? Should be incredibly bright all night long over there these days! I don't know what a student's budget would be these days, so if I have suggested something above the price range, sorry about that. What a great and enviable predicament! Best wishes.

Brugges is a great idea. You can easily take a ferry or jetfoil (half the time) from Ramsgate to Oostende, which is about 15 mins. from Brugge. You will not be disappointed in this town. Also, have you been to Paris? Amsterdam? These aren't too far, either.

I've heard flights to Athens are super cheap from England and elsewhere in Northern Europe, especially with student rates. Maybe that's too far, though. If you liked Switzerland, maybe give Austria a try. Salzburg is beautiful, and there's lots to do in Vienna. Or check out Bavaria. Or any of the places mentioned thus far. I'm brimming with ideas...how about: get out your map of Europe, close your eyes and point?!
