My two 12/13 boys loved Schloss Nymphenburg and Residence. The Deutsches Museum was ok, but not awesome. We pricelined, and got Hilton Munchen Park and were very happy there. (two rooms) It is a quick taxi ride from the airport anyway, so why not stay in the city? The Hilton has a bus stop right in front of it. Wanted to do the Bayerischer Museum but ran out of time--they have a lot of arms there, if your kids are into that! A walk through the English garden yielded a topless sunbather, which the kids got a big kick out of!!! Really enjoyed the Olympia tower--it has a cool rock and roll museum. It is fun to do in the evening.

I second the recomendation of Mike's Bike Tour. Don't worry about it being too strenuous - the tour goes at a leisurly pace, stopping every few minutes to point out the sites. About halfway through the whole group stops at a beer garden to "relax". Don't worry about the teens - there's softdrinks if you don't want them trying the beer, and beer gardens are a family places. Munich's a really bike freindly city - dedicated bikepaths run along most sidewalks, so you don't have to deal with pedestrians or traffic.
