What to do with two extra days between Florence and Rome
My husband and I will be in Italy in late January. We are staying in Florence for a week for business and then spending a few nights in Rome before our flight home.
We were planning to jump on a Volare flight to Paris for a couple of days but that option is now not available. I would like to try somewhere new for a couple of nights that we can get to easily without a lot of travelling. If it were a different time of year I would head to the countryside but not January. And we enjoy the coast around Rapallo but it is going to be too chilly to really enjoy it, I think. What would be a good place for a 2 night stay? I need somewhere easily accessible by train and we do not want to travel very far. We will have more baggage than I would normally carry so I would prefer not to have to tranfer trains. Venice is not an option as neither of us care to return. We travel to Italy often but work most of time while we are there so we always try to schedule a couple of days just to relax and enjoy our favorite country. Any suggestions? kim |
Spend a couple of nights in Orvieto. Siena would be another option, but I'm not sure if they have convenient train access. ((b))

I am going to reserach Orvieto. I have been to Siena a couple of times and would prefer to experience somewhere new.
Do you have a suggestion on places to stay? thanks. |
A couple of nights in Orvieto would be wonderful. While I haven't been to Italy in the winter, I can't imagine it not being fabulous.

I really like Arezzo (where the movie "Life is Beautiful" was partially filmed). Very cute little town, and the designer outlets are not too far away if you are interested in that sort of thing. There are lots of great little towns near it for exploring.
Plus, I checked the Trenitalia website and there are direct trains from Florence to Arezzo and from Arezzo to Rome, so no switching with heavy bags. |
Hi kf,
Orvieto is a lovely town. I suggest a lunch or dinner at I Sette Consoli. Or you could fly FLR to Barcelona and then to Rome FCO. See www.whichbudget.com. |
We are planning four days in Barcelona on our June trip to Italy but I am going to check out that site and see what else looks appealing.
thanks |
