what to do with kids in Vienna

We will be in Vienna with friends at the beginning of August and we'll have 5 kids in all(11 and under).

Are there places of adult interest that can also interest kids? Or what would you recommend us?
Thanks. Cristina

Look at these suggestions on the Vienna Tourist Board's web site:

The zoo at Schonbrunn is very interesting . You can combine visit to the Palace, a walk in the Gardens with time for the animals- something for everyone. Many do like the Wagenberg exhibit too- a collection of royal carriages - just to the right of the Palace.
Also at Schonbrunn
Beneath the restaurant is a kitchen and shop. They regularly have a seesion about Strudel making. Many kids like this- make and eat your own creation. Many nice things in shop.

The Prater- Vienna amusement park - something for everyone- from pony rides to the giant ferris wheel. Many types of food there from McDonalds to Vienna cooking.
Many like the little train ride too- gives parents a rest.

Take a Fiaker ( horse carriage) tour of the city. Kids like the ride- parents the sights.

Try the many ice cream places- again a nice break for everyone.

Natural History Museum on the Ring.

cenciarc,
My boys' favorite spot last summer(then both 9 yr olds) and Dad's also was the Weapon & Armor Museum in the Neue Berg Palace. The Kunsthistorisches Museum had a good Egyptian collection if any of the kids are mummy fans. If any of the kids are horse crazy (or parents), the Lipizzaner Museum is interesting. By the way, we found good spaghetti & pizza restaurants to suit the kids taste. Have a great trip, sounds like lots of fun! Betsy

In the Museum Quarter, there is ZOOM, the Childrens Museum, and there is also a Doll & Toy Museum in Viena. Check out this website for add'l info:

My kids ( boys - ages 10 and 11 at the time) were a little bored with the palace tour at Schonbrunn, but they LOVED the garden maze and labrynth.

As BestyG said, the weapons and arms museum was also a favorite, but the Lippinzanner horses didn't thrill them too much. The Natural History museum was good - great mineral exhibit (both parents are geologists!), and an interesting exhibit on the Ice Man. Also great "stuffed" animals -unlike what you usually find in the US.

They liked walking along the pedestrian streets and shopping - especially the Swarovsky crystal store.

We were there in November, so it was a bit cold, but if I had been there in the summer I would have looked into a cruise along the Danube.
