Caldud -- There's a cheaper way. On the French (sncf) train site you can book a train from Paris (Gare Austerlitz) to Sarlat. It stops in Souillac, where you board an Autocar (big, comfy bus) for the half-hour ride from Souillac to Sarlat. It's convenient, easy...not a TGV, but a much more direct route than going to Bordeaux, and therefore takes about the same amount of trip time from Paris, about 5 - 5 1/2 hours. Check it out at www.voyages-sncf.com. Alternatively, you could get off the train in Brive, north of Souillac, rent your car there, and drive into Sarlat in less than an hour.
