What to do in Prague winter

Besides the Old city, what suggestions to do in Prague in early December. Can you suggest short day trips, good tour guides? I will be touring alone.

Prague is a good location for bus day trips, there are several good companies operating there with good itineraries and cheap rates. There is one company that has a stop near Namesti Republicky metro stop (and another down near Wenceslas Square, I'm sure), if you go there you will see their stand and can get brochures. Or look around Wenceslas Sq (where you get out of the metro stop Mustek, there are probably several around there. Or go to Cedok, the main travel agency, they probably have some. I've used Prague Sightseeing tours among others and liked them very much (they are online, also, you can check what they have). I've taken day trips to Kutna Hora which I really liked and wouldn't depend on the season that much, I suggest that. I've also taken on down to Cesky Krumlov, as well as Hluboka (?) and Ceske Budejovice, they were all very good.

YOu can go to Karlovy Vary on your own, of course, but I didn't do that so am not up on the best way (used to be bus).

There are things to see in Prague other than Old Town, you know. You can check online probably on a tourism website, or in a good guidebook. Just to name a few, the modern art museum to the north of the river is outstanding (in Veletrzni Palace) and easy to get to, and you can also find interesting things in Vinohrady, Vysehrad and Smichov. There are things to do all over, you just need to do a little research.

Many of Prague's major sights are indoors:

Castle complex with cathedral and golden road
Synagogue and entire jewish complex
Tour town hall
Visit a bunch of churches
Several other museums
A host of musical offerings - usually very good quality at low prices

The only thing you might not want to do is a river cruise and that was a yawn anyway
