What to do in Messina?

We are arriving in Messina on a cruise ship. We have from 8am till 6pm. What should we not miss while we are there? Any idea on the best way to get from the port to the Duomo, Regional Museum, and Orion Fountain?

Thank you so much!

The center of Messina is easy to walk and the port is close enough to the places that you want to visit.
Warning for wallet, anyway.
Do not miss, in the port, the golden Madonna and its latin words: VOS ET IPSAM CIVITATEM BENEDICIMUS.
It's a sweet way to tell you, dear guest, that you're welcome !

Lonely Planet says there's a tram that goes from Piazza Cairoli via the train station to the Museo Regionale, but I don't know where the cruise ships dock.

Is this your only stop on the east coast of Sicily? If so, I'd be inclined to take a train (60 min) or bus (90 min) to Taormina and a bus up to Castelmola - even though I found Taormina over-touristy, the views are spectacular.

Don' miss the bell tower show at 12 noon. Then have a nice lunch in the Piazza del Duomo.

You could make your way to Tindari to see the ampitheater and ruins and then go into the church there to see the Black Madonna.
