what to do in Dublin?
 

We will be in Dublin for only 4 days and 4 nights and I was wondering what sights and places are "must see" and what may be a waste of time.Also, we will be there in early February what can we expect weather wise?

Dan, <BR>There is lots to do in Dublin, I would suggest that you take the Dublin Bus Hop On and Hop Off tour of the city on your first days and then return to some of the attractions that you were interested in during the next few days. Trinity College and the book of Kells, the new Guinness Visitors store, the Jameson Whiskey Distillery, the Writer's Museum, the National Museum and the National Art Galley, Grafton Street, Moore Street ..... there is so much more that the above list check out www.ireland.travel.ie for more details on Dublin and other regions. <BR> <BR>In 4 days you could also take a bus tour out of the city (you won't need a car in the city). Check out Bus Eireann trips via the CIE web site - www.cie.ie either a trip to the ancient passage grave of Newgrange or the monastery at Glendalough in the Wicklow Mts. <BR> <BR>Re pubs etc in Dublin visitors like the Temple Bar area but most locals stay away from it. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps, <BR> <BR>Do a search on this site for more ideas. <BR> <BR>Cathy

I would suggest that you get lost. Seriously! Find your way around it is the best way to see the city. Once you have been there for a couple of days you will know it pretty well. Try not to drive if you aren't used to the opposite side thing. <BR>Temple Bar area is nice but really touristy. Jameson's is a nice place to visit and Grafton St. is worth while and nearby St. James Gate is a good place to escape the masses. If you don't know where you are staying do the B&B thing it is much more rewarding, oh yeah hit all the pubs you can, that is the true Dublin experiance. <BR>If you do venture out Cork is nice but stay away from Waterford. A more extended stay might be needed to see Killarney which I really enjoyed. Enjoy and UP Kerry!!!

The best thing to do is to take the guided walking tours which start at Trinity College gate. Newgrange is also a short distance by car and interesting.

To Linda, Yes the hop on/off tour bus runs on Sunday & the Guiness pub & store is open on Sunday. I was there this past August & Used the bus & went to Guiness on Sunday. If i recall, the only thing different on Sunday was that there was a later a.m. start for the bus tours & The Guiness store opened around midday.

Find the time to take the train to Killiney. The railway line hugs the coast going South and in Killiney walk up on to the cliffs for great views. Famous inhabitants include Bono of U2 and Enya

To Linda again. The on/off buses circle <BR>central Dublin & stop @ all the popular <BR>tourist areas. Each bus company has their routes listed on posts @ the stops & you can get info about routes & stops @ your hotel. I haven't stayed @ that hotel but request a room away from the street as Dublin street noise can be extremely loud. <BR>

Was in Dublin two years ago and really enjoyed the Literary Pub Crawl. You can find their information brochures fairly easily once you are there.

Hi Dan, <BR> <BR>I just got back from a few weeks in Ireland and Scotland. We went on the literary pub crawl the one night and enjoyed it. It begins at Duke's Pub on Duke Street right off Grafton Street (big shopping area) with the doors upstairs opening at 7 pm. We didn't make advance reservations and had no problem joining in. Make sure to dress warm, since part of the tour will include standing outside in the cold night air. Have fun!
