It isn't necessary to walk from a Tube station to the Imperial War Museum.

The IWM is a stop on the #159 bus that comes all the way down through town from Marble Arch. A glance at this simplified bus map should clarify much of your itinerary planning:

I recommend an Oyster Card loaded with Pay-As-You-Go fares in lieu of a Travelcard. The three-day Travelcard forces you to pay for on-peak fares whether you need them or not. Bus fares don't make that peak/off-peak distinction, and the Oyster fares cap at the price of a one-day Travelcard.
