What to do about a lost passport?

Can you please give me a link, or address and phone number, of whom I would have to contact if I lose my passport in Germany and Switzerland? Thanks for your help.

I'm assuming you're American. Below is a link for all contact info:

Photocopy, or even better scan, the front pages of your passport - will make replacement easier. I have scanned mine and have them on the net - so if I ever lose a passport/all my belongings etc all I have to do it get to the net and can download and print the pages

You would go to a local US consulate wherever you are, hopefully carrying the photocopy that someone else suggested you have.
