What Time Does Speakers Corner Finish?

My 17 year old son really wants to see Speakers Corner on the 1 Sunday that we will be in London. I am also trying to work in a trip to Greenwich on this day. If we go to Greenwich in the morning, would we still be able to catch some of speakers corner by 3:30 or 4:00 in the afternoon? Thanks for your help! Laurie

They tend to peter out after about 1PM. of course there are often some die hards sticking around later. But it would be pretty tough to get to Speakers' Corner after a trip all the way to Greenwich.

It is better to organize your daily excursions so you are doing things in the same general areas instead of visiting things on opposite sides of the city.

I agree with Janis.
By late afternoon the only ones left are the diehard bible thumpers and the Rick Steves film crew.

Laurie,

If Speakers Corner is a "must", then you can go there at 11.00 a.m., then take the Tube and Docklands Light Railway to Greenwich in the afternoon. That journey will take somewhat over an hour--you could speed things up by taking a taxi to Tower Hill DLR station, or all the way to Greenwich (but that will be costly).

IMHO you probably won't spend too much time at Speakers Corner--there's just so much time you can spend listening to the tirades...

David White
http://www.KidsToLondon.com

Thank you all for your replies. For some reason, seeing speakers corner is very important to my son.

I have found a train that leaves from Charring Cross around 12:00 and arrives to Greenwich in about 20 minutes.

Would this give us enough time in Greenwich?
Thank you for your help. Laurie

Depends what you want to do in Greenwich.

From memory, I think the last boat back to central London leaves about 5 -5.30 (but you can always go back by DLR via Canary Wharf).

Your plan leaves you plenty of time to stroll up the hill to the Observatory and visit either Cutty Sark or the Maritime Museum (personally, I wouldn't bother with the inside of the Queen's House).

But if you get caught up in a leisurely lunch or in the antique shops and market or just strolling in the park, you might have to cut out one or other museum.

As far as Speakers Corner goes, I was there between 4 and 5 PM on March 23rd and it was still going strong - mostly because it was a Sunday with beautiful weather. I think whatever the weather is the day you will be there will have a lot to do with how late there will be speakers.

Thank you all for your help. Maybe we will see what the weather brings before we decide what to see first. Thanks again. Laurie
