What should I say? (death in family)
My husband and I are going to visit his two Aunts in Italy next month, both of whom lost their husbands within the last two years. I would like to express my condolences in Italian when I see them. What would be appropriate to say?

The same thing you would say to anyone......I am very sorry....Sono molto spiacente
"Ci dispiace molto" or "condoglianze". Sono spiacente is gramatically correct but means something very slightly different as in "I am sorry but I cannot help you.."
Grazie mille!
Sono molto spiacente is used often. Ci dispiace is "We are sorry" Mi dispiace is "I am sorry"
