I am so excited!
End of May: 8 days in Paris (because my sweetie's never been there, it's my favorite place, and I got a good sale fare)
End of June-early July: Rocky Mountain National Park (for a wedding), Arches, Bryce, Zion, Yosemite (because I've never been & have always wanted to, and had frequent flier miles I could use).
End of August-early Sept.: Alaska (because when you live in Washington DC, Alaska in August sounds like heaven for a break from the heat and humidity, it only takes 22,500 frequent flier miles on Northwest, and because I've always wanted to go there).
November: Sydney, Great Barrier Reef, and the south island of New Zealand (because American has a great award requiring only 60,000 miles to fly there on Qantas including 2 stopovers, the exchange rates are great, everyone we've ever known who's been has raved about it and how friendly Aussies & Kiwis are, and because we've always wanted to go there).

Europe is probably not happening this year, but...

May - Charleston, SC for a week with the family

Either New York City or Chicago (either June, September, or November) - for a seminar - will stay for a few days of pleasure as well - probably alone

July - Maybe up to Virginia to revisit a few Civil War sites - Richmond area

Fall - Somewhere with the family - I guess a week to Europe is not completely out of the question if we go when the rates drop (maybe London or France); as of now also considering Montreal/Quebec, New England, NC/Tenn mountains, western U.S., Washington, D.C.. My daughter really wants to fly, so watch out all you people who hate children on planes!

My husband and I are going to Italy three weeks from today. We are flying into Venice, driving to Florence for 2 nights, Siena for 2 nights, Gaeta for 1 night, Sorrento for 2 nights, Amalfi for 1 night and Rome for 2 nights. Trying to get the flavor of the entire country. We have most everything planned except our hotel in Rome. We are both extremely excited about this trip and are counting down the days!!

We thought we might go to Turkey, but back in December, when I pointed out to my husband that we'd needed to save for the airfare, we decided to see some of our own country instead. We're driving from Toronto to Nova Scotia, PEI and New Brunswick. We've never done a road trip before and hopefully we won't be at each other's throats by the time we get home! I'm doing my standard reading (guidebooks, internet sites, etc.). We'll make reservations for the first few nights, but hope to be able to play it by ear the rest of the trip (it's September). I'm excited about it!

Just returned from Italy. NY over Memorial Day weekend. Cape Cod over Labor Day and a few extra days. Ireland for 10 days in October. I'm originally from NY, so there is no planning there. Have never been to Ireland so I've gotten some books and have begun reading.

Enjoyed reading all the responses here! This summer will be my first trip to Europe - a lifetime dream!

I have a home exchange in England for 3 weeks, Wales for 3 weeks and will be in Paris for 4 nights. I am also squeezing in 2 nights in Edinburgh at a hostel.

Travelling with 2 teen daughters and no choice but to go in summer. We live in Canada.

I thoroughly enjoy this forum and have learned so much from your posts. Thanks all!

Susan, your trip sounds great. I'd actually planned it once, but had to cancel. For me it's Albuquerque in June (brother), Alaska cruise in July (w/kids and grandkids), August ??? (sis-in-law wants me to come to Chicago...but I'm not crazy about the heat/humidity). Maybe Maine in Sept/Oct.

In early June, our annual 6 weeks in Spain, part family visit, part fun, part work. We'll begin in Madrid, then on to Barcelona to start two weeks of touring in Spanish/French Catalonia (Emporda, Costa Brava, Rousillon) and on to Languedoc, then down through the Pyrennes. Then to Pamplona, Navarra (10 days) for jobs during the Running of the Bulls, then finishing up in the Basque Country for a needed rest & touring back and forth between Euskadi and the Pays Basque, from Bilbao to Biarritz.
To Seattle and points north in late Aug., then start a yr. long sabbatical-travel plans for that yet to be made.

Happy (and safe) travels to all.

First I am going to take a month off and spend some quality time at Dollywood. From there, I plan to hit Myrtle Beach and Daytona Beach. After that, it's Atlantic City and Branson, Missouri. I can only hope that I'll still have time for Dawson's Creek (love the show but never been to the actual place).

Happy RVing,
Tamisue

I'm staying home most of the summer.... but since home is Provence, it's not exactly a hardship. I'll be meeting some of the Fodorites for drinks here at my house, dinners in St. Remy, etc.

A trip to NYC is probably in the works for late summer.

hey everyone....i just kinda stumbled upon thsi website today, through a Fodor's travel guide i picked up. i figured id share my upcoming experience. a few friends of mine and i are embarking on a much anticipated debute trip to Europe this summer, starting in July and ending near the end of August. the motto is basically a little touristy stuff, but mostly exploration. Experience is the main focus, and just really letting ourselves go, taking in all we can. the trip is going to encompass, as of now: france, italy, switz, austria, germany, netherlands, belgium, spain....although we know this only to be tentative and are looking forward to the adventures that are to come upon our arrival....we will be backpacking....can anyone offer any hostelling advice, as far as where to stay, perhaps....
keep on keeping on'....

As we prefer to travel in the shoulder or off seasons, we do not plan any European travel this summer. What we do plan to do in the summer is to spend a long (5 day) weekend in Florida (the west side, Tampa and south), and also spend a long weekend visiting dear friends in Boulder, Colorado. At the end of summer (September) we be going to Scotland and Ireland for 11 days. We also then plan to take a wine country cruise in the Napa/Sonoma valleys of California in November. That is what we have scheduled so far.
