I will be travelling to Montpellier this summer and would love more info on the Languedoc-Rousaillon region. I'm particularly interested in beautiful landscapes and small villages, as well as hikes and bike trails. Thanks.

I LOVE the Loire Valley. The Normandy region was wonderful as well. I was not enchanted by Brittany. Have a great trip!

Here we are, less than a week after returning from Paris, planning trip #2. I say "we", but actually it's "me" plotting how I can get back quickly. If I plan it I believe I can sweet talk my honey into seeing the need for a return trip..this year. I was wondering where even to start my planning and here this thread was, just waiting to be found. I love these boards!

I need a few more days in Paris, but then 10 or so elsewhere--the prettiest of the regions wherever they might be.

Next, when is the best time to go--when things are green and in bloom? We can't travel during the height of our hurricane season, August through October, but can go any time other than that.

A monster has been born and he needs a French fix to keep him subdued!! C

Burgundy, often overlooked on the tourist trail, is an area full of history, great architecture, good food, and extraordinary wine. The region is so large that you could spend a lot of time exploring it, and your time would be very well spent.

Having said that, I also love Provence!
The two provide a real introduction to the differences among regions of France.

Time of year: May usually brings good weather, and if you go before the high season air-fare starts you will save money, too.

Thanks to all for your wonderful suggestions. I love reading about France, thinking about France, dreaming about France...
I'm still not sure where we'll be headed in June but, for some reason, cannot shake a desire to go to Corsica! (I'm almost afraid to admit it since no one plugged it, and I don't want you to feel like I'm an ingrate.)

Oh petitepois, please go to Corsica. But only if you write a trip report when you return.

A friend of mine has wanted to do some of the islands between France and Italy for some time now. I just need, well, motivation, time, money, etc. You know the usual.

I promise I'll post a trip report re Corsica. There's a bit of a dearth of information on Corsica on this forum; I've heard it's mostly a destination for Europeans and not Americans, so perhaps this is why.
Indytravel -- The January issue of Gourmet magazine has a long travel piece on the Stromboli islands which provides delightful material for daydreams.

Ah........can I get back to you on that. I'm going to need a little more time to decide but Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur and Rhone Alps is hard to beat. This could take a while. Did I mention Languedoc-Roussillon?
