What's Wrong With Exelmans/Paris
 

I've been researching Paris apartments in the 16th arrondisement. It seems as though the Exelman's neighborhood is not rated as highly as the rest of the 16th. Does anyone know why not? Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by "rated", but it is farther from the beaten path than the northern part of the 16eme. By no means a bad area, though. You would just have a longer ride on the Metro to some of Paris' main attractions. Auteuil is a quaint neighborhood near Exelmans with a village feel.

There are, unfortunately, several frequent posters here who have decided that there are certain areas in Paris where one "must" stay and others that are to be avoided. The "reasoning" for their decision remains obscure.
DO NOT fall into the trap of feeling that just because the people who post here don;t have much to say about an area that it isn't any good or "worth" staying in. More likely than not it might be because people here haven't experienced it yet or are following the so-called self-imposed "travel rules."
If you need that sort of "direction" you'll soon get it, believe me.

Exelman's is a fine residential neighborhood. We rented an apartment in the nearby Auteuil section and truly enjoyed spending time in a wonderful neighborhood off the beaten paths of the Marais/Latin Quarter/Rue Cler areas. However, since Exelman's is so residential, it's a little short on some services like restaurants, shops, etc. Not much to do late at night. But it's a safe neighborhood and within an easy walk of Auteuil, which has all everything they need--wonderful street market, shops, restaurants (ranging from casual spots to a few Michelin starred restaurants), cafes, ATMs, etc.
Also, the number 10 metro line is a little funny out that way--a couple of stops are one way only. For example, if memory serves, the Mirabeau stop only takes you into central Paris. You can't get off there on the way back.
