What's the best hotel in the Chianti Region?

Am looking for two nights in the Chianti Region. Will do day trips to other locations. Thank you!

We really enjoyed Villa Vignamaggio where the movie Much Ado About Nothing was filmed. This is an Agritourismo which is explained on their web site:
http://www.vignamaggio.com/uk_agriturismo.htm, which we found to be better than most of the high end hotels we stayed at in Europe. (you also enjoy large rooms/apartments which is much better than the small rooms most European hotels have.

Villa Vignamaggio looks like a very relaxing place. Is Greve in Chianti a good town to stay near? Is there enough happening?

I've heard great things about the town Castellina in Chianti?

I can only give our opinion. We stayed in both Castellina and Greve and Greve suited us more. Greve is larger and had more for us to do than in Castellina and Radda. Castellina is a wonderful hill town and certainly has charm. Greve is in a valley; it also has charm and more shops and restuarants to choose from. (Plus it has an very affordable internet cafe that was open from 7am to 8pm) Also has a much larger market in it's piazza on Sat. Castellina is definitely a village to visit. Radda is even smaller than Castellina.

Googs - Greve is about as quiet as a grave. We've been to Tuscany several times. You can check out our visits on my website. Maybe it can help you.

sssteve, love your web page. Can't read fast enough. So much great info, pictures and links. You have been everywhere. Thank you!

Any suggestions to my itinerary for a first timer to the Tuscany Region?

2 nights Montalcino with day trip to Montelpulcino
2 nights in Castellina in Chianti with day trip to Siena
1 night Pisa
2 night Vernazza

Back to reading.
