What part of Venice to stay in?
This will probably be my only opportunity to stay in Venice-my husband and I are hoping to go this May 2015. What is the best area for two tourists who like to walk, but don't want to spend more than 180 euros per night? We are a married couple in our 60's. We would like to stay in a romantic B&B with a view; we need breakfast and maybe a mini-fridge. No smoking!

Wherever you end up please be aware that Venice is definitely "walkable" and a lot of the sites are much closer to one another than some people realize.
This past Fall we stayed in a hotel right on the grand canal and within a couple minutes' walk of San Marco (the area we much prefer to stay in) and we ended up walking all over the city to churches, other sites, etc. I was amazed at how easy it is so whatever you do don't let people convince you that you absolutely HAVE to stay somewhere because it is "close to everything."

My daughter stayed here a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it.

Location is good, easy to find from the San Toma vap stop, and there are resteraunts close by.
You have asked "what part of Venice to stay in?". On a map, draw a line from Piazzle Roma to the San Basilio vap stop on the Giudecca Canal. Avoid staying west of that line - it is rather ordinary. I would suggest that you don't stay anywhere much east of the Arsenale, as this area is realtively quiet, with quite a few modern buildings.
But in May, the Arts Biennale will be happening, starting 9th May, and a lot of that happens in and around the Arsenale and the Giardini, and may be of interest.
If you click on my user name, you would find several trip reports for Venice. We are returning there mid-September for a month.
