I'm glad my wife doesn't read this. :-)

When we go (for a week, usually) we each take 2 pairs of very comfy shoes and we fit everything into a couple of overhead carry-ons and a couple of very small underseat man-purses.

Of course, our honeymoon was in 1969 (!), so these days we're not so picky about how we look when we travel...all we care about is not having a lot of luggage to carry around and/or have the airline lose.

Once again...best of luck to you both...and I know you'll have a G R E A T time.

When I was in y 20's , I also traveled with a huge suitcase and 4-5 pairs of shoes.
Now, it is often just one pair and an over the shoulder carry -on.
Travel.. and learn.

Haha I agree with the comment.. "Travel and Learn". I'm sure I will learn a lot as a first timer going over seas. Our next trip I'll probably take 1 pair of shoes and 3 pieces of clothes haha.

I know 5 pairs of shoes sounds CRAZY and I agree it is but I figure as long as they are small and can fit in my husbands luggage (I'm not carrying them) then we are good to go! I wear a size 5 shoe so my sandals are super tiny and fit on the sides of the luggage easily.

Just remember when packing, the weight of the luggage is important too. You need to be able to lift all your luggage off the ground and up/down stairs and onto tables. I always make sure I can lift it above my head, if not, it's too heavy.

I take 2 pair of shoes and 5-6 outfits no matter how long we are traveling, I have carried my clothes on my back far too long to realize the pain it causes hauling it around train stations and on stairs as they don't really have escalators/elevators.

I think you are taking the right amount of clothes for your honeymoon and they all sound like they are really fun and cute. Don't worry about the number of shoes, they sound like they are light weight, why not take them.

Pack your suitcases and then walk them around the block and lift them up chest high like you are putting them on a train and see how they are. Also you may have to put them way above your seat on the train so try that too. Pull them up and dow a flight of stairs. If it is all ok, just go and have fun!

hi. your list of clothing sounds good but i do think all you need is one scarf, and just the fedora hat. also you can do without the naturalizer heeled shoes. just opt for a pretty jeweled ballet flats. what do you need dress pants for? if you are going somewhere fancy you can always dress up your capris or jeans. you dont need to bring a tote bag either. it will only weigh on your shoulder after a few hours of walking. if you must have one while you are there, you can always buy one and have as a souvenir. your honeymoon sounds amazing! you will love Paris!

5 pairs of shoes in fine, IMO. I took 4 on my last trip (returned on Saturday) and I did carry-on. I am not new to overseas travel - I generally take this many pairs. My shoes are size 5 also, so they don't take up much room.

The dressy flip-flops are a great idea. At the end of a day of wandering around, sometimes the last thing my feet want is to be IN a pair of shoes.

"if you are going someplace fancy you can always dress up your jeans." -- Summa, we may have different definitions of what constitutes "fancy", but In my experience people definitely dress for dinner in Paris and Rome at anyplace reasonably nice. Jeans would definitely not qualify if they plan on going for a glass of champagne at one of the classic hotels or splurge on a dinner - which is likely in the plan given this is their honeymoon! April, make sure your H packs a sport coat (at minimum) and button-down, and ideally a dark pair of trousers to wear at night - jeans, khakis, golf shirts won't cut it. You said you were bringing a classic plain black dress - that is spot on. Think Audrey Hepburn :)

One of the things about big cities is that ten different people can visit one and they'll come back with ten different descriptions of how things are in that city. You need a plain black dress if you're going somewhere where you have to wear a plain black dress; otherwise you don't.

i have been to paris twice, italy twice, (all over europe!), and have gone and eaten at the fanciest places. audrey hepburn in paris is a fantasy.

Jeans are fine in Paris - I saw them everywhere. Avoid shorts and suggestive attire. Comfortable shoes for the daytime are essential. The cobblestones will kill your feet if you don't have on good shoes. Have you looked at black New Balance or Privo shoes? The Pashminas are useful as is a cute rain jacket.

We're leaving next Monday: From Bath we'll take a train to Edinburgh, tour part of Scotland including the Isle of Skye, and then 4 nights in Paris. I'm taking a small carry-on wheeled bag, the kind that can fit under the seat in front of you (in some planes!). So I'm taking thin clothing. What about jeggings and black leggings? I didn't see them mentioned above. And Teva Tirra (thick sole, great arch support but definitely open-toed) sandals? Would my black Arcopedico mary-janes be better? They're not as good for walking as the soles are thinner than the Teva's. I'll also take New Balance plain white walking shoes.

Just had to add about shoes. Rome and Med cruise 4 yrs ago in September, then Paris in July 3 yrs ago. Both times lived in sundresses and capris with custom made orthopedic Birkenstocks. I looked fine - no chic middle ager but I was SOOOO comfortable and my feet walked a million miles and didn't hurt once.

Doing 2 wks in London/Paris this month. No beloved sundresses and sandals but black leggings,black pants, and Ecco shoes: MaryJanes and a slimlined sneaker(Puma like) Really want to wear my white Ecco athletic shoe but I guess that doesn't quite go with all the black. No Lululemons either- darn!

Foggy, were those Birkies you wore sandals? I'm going for lightweight comfort, not chic, and I WILL wear my white NB with black! So leggings/jeggings are okay? I'm 67, fairly slim, look young for my age.

Changed my mind about the leggings; without long tops I look like I'm going to the gym. I found some lightweight black pants in my closet to pack and I'll wear black jeans for traveling.
