What kind of student card needed?

Hello all.....and many thanks for the expert advice given in this forum. Here is another question for the knowledgeable.
I have noticed that there are many discounts available to students in Europe with a ?Student Card.?
Can an American student attending an American university obtain a student card that would be recognized and honored in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe? What type of obtainable student card would be best recognized in Europe with the least amount of troubles. He has his university I.D. card; is that sufficient? Thank you for any pearls of wisdom. My children found that their ordinary (photo) University ID cards were accepted as all the proof needed (for museum discounts, etc).

Best wishes,

Rex

There is a student travel website - www.statravel.com that can answer most questions about student travel and the international student card (ISIC card). I think you can purchase the card through them.

I took my Univ. ID card with me this summer and it was all that I needed. Most places didn't even ask to see it. Just ask for the student discount and you shouldn't have to much of a problem.
Good luck :) Lauren

ISIC got my son some discounts that he couldn't get otherwise.

My daughter didn't have the international student card, just her university ID, and some places gave her the discount anyway, others didn't. It just depends. For example, the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna wouldn't allow the discount without the correct card, but the Spanish Riding School did give the discount.
