What kind of a reception can we expect in Berlin?
 

I am traveling to Berlin with a well-known American symphony orchestra next month. After seeing the peace demonstration in Berlin on the news -- 100,000 people in the streets -- I am a little worried. We're also going to Frankfurth and Munich. What do you think will happen? How will we be received? Do you think that we're in any danger?

Probably the most dangerous activity during your trip will be the drive to the airport in your hometown. More people die in automobile accidents than peace demonstrations.

Why would you think that people in Germany will do something bad to you just because they disagree with the action the US has taken? Do you know of some sort of "retribution behavior" that has taken place over there? Or, are you "transferring" to those folks given the actions that have happened in this country? I don't think you have a thing to worry about.

I have read about huge peace demonstrations in San Francisco, Washington DC and New York. One more reason why these are my favourite cities in the US!

They are advocating for PEACE not violance! No one is going to harm you.

Once you don't say &quot;ich bin ein Berliner&quot; you should be ok. It actually means &quot;I am a doughnut&quot;, and someone might decide to take a bite!!<BR><BR>Seriously though, you shouldn't have any problems.

We just returned from a trip to Germany and Austria and I wondered the same thing before we left. We did see a few peace rallies, but never felt threatened in the least. Actually had an interesting conversation with a young German man who supported the US war with Iraq and many others who were sympathetic.
