What is your favorite movie filmed in Europe for the scenery?

Last night I was watching an old Grace Kelly movie with "Judy, Judy, Judy - his name has slipped my mind, filmed in the S. of France. What movie do you love to watch for the scenery? A Room With a View? Braveheart? Rob Roy? ???

How could I possibly forget my favourite Shirley Valentine, especially as I've just been there and sat on Shirley's beach and visited the little taverna.

Also thanks to Marisa Tomei and Morton Downey Jr. in "Only You" filmed on the Amalfi Coast which started me to visit this area. Been there now three times.

Return of Martin Guerre with Gerard Depardeau, for the French Countryside, Stealing Beauty with Liv Taylor for the Italian.

Just saw the new Italian film Respiro last night. It was filmed in Sicily using locals, and is the story of how a small, poor fishing village deals with a mentally ill woman. A very gritty but beautiful look at day to day life in rural Sicily.

"The Talented Mr. Ripley" with Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwenyth Paltrow is filmed in several parts of Italy, including the south coast, Rome, Venice and San Remo. It looks great.

Well, it isn't a *good* movie, but the redeeming factor of "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" is the quite stunning Italian scenery. The palace is actually Caserta (the domed rooftops were added with computer graphics), and the villa where they hide is at Lake Como. My 6 yo loves this movie, so I'm stuck watching it often.

"Roman Holiday" and "To Catch a Thief" (which, BTW, is the movie mentioned by the OP) are also good. For Ireland, I have to go with Ryan's Daughter -- again, not the best movie, but great visuals.

oo, fun question...I second both Stealing Beauty and the Talented Mr. Ripley. They make me long for Italy.

How about Jean de Florette, Swan in Love and Cinema Paradiso? Out of Africa is another favorite...and talk about outstanding soundtracks! OOOPS another idea for a good thread.
