What is your favorite hotel in Venice
We will be taking a 2 week vacation on May 5 thru 19 and going from Athens to Barcelona. I am looking for your favorite hotel in Venice in this thread. I am looking for the perfect hotel that is quaint, comfortable, quiet and close to the city center at the same time. There are 2 adult couples in our group and our budget is $100 to $200 (US) per night per couple. I understand that Venice is very expensive for hotels and both couples may be willing to share a room if it gets us in a nice place for a few nights. We are a ways out from our trip so hopefully we can get a reservation at a great location. Thanks for your advice.

I'm not sure many hotels are set up to have two couples in the same room. Unless you booked a "quad"-family room or you rent an apartment. |

Dear Wekiva, I have stayed 5 times at the family-run Hotel Campiello, <5 min. walk from the Piazza San Marco or the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. It is on a little side street located between two 5 star hotels, the Danieli and Londra. It is immaculate, the hosts charming and helpful, with rates that are reasonable for Venice (about 150-220E for a double, inc. breakfast.) wekiva....the only way to escape the King's Ransom in Venice particularly, is to explore the pensiones. We have twice stayed at the Bucintoro, smack on the Grand Canal, across from the Customs' House, and at the boat stop for the Murano trip...easy walk to San Marcos, etc...smallish rooms(many with views of the canal), en suite, excellent breakfasts in bright dining room...price two years ago, our latest visit, was $105 equiv. With this kind of rate, you can splurge on the foodie stuff!! Bon Appetit!

Locanda Orseolo is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is absolutely great(Matteo made my daughters banana and nutella crepes each morning!), and the hosts make you feel very special.

Loved the Pensione Accademia in the quieter but still well-located dorsudoruo area of Venice. It fits your criteria. Our double room (deluxe room?) was around 180 euros in JUne 2004. This hotel often gets good reviews here. Excellent staff, great breakfast buffet, I prefer the garden view room as the canal view room is NOT of the Grand canal. It's on a smaller canal just off the Grand canal, very convenient. Quaint. I have a couple photos of the pretty sitting room right outside our room if you want me to e-mail them. [email protected] Put "Venice hotels" or "Pensione Accademia" in the subject line as I need to pre-screen my e-mail for junk mail.

Elaine- You do not have to have the Nutella (though my son loved it). I had mine with jam every morning. My daughter and husband liked the lemon juice and sugar. Have them anyway you like!
