Ken and Elsa,

Thanks for your helpful feedback. YOu obviously understand that I really was asking a serious question and expecting a serious answer.

Lawrence...I DO have a funnybone, but unfortunately, the response to my question wasn;t really funny. It was a little mean spirited...and I say this because at the end of the day, XXX never answered the question.

It's fine, who cares, right? I'm just finding that it;s getting harder and harder to ask a question on this forum without getting attacked for asking what has been deemed, by whomever, a "bad" question.

And by the way, I"m American. I know what the connotation for fanny pack would be, but I figured that was the best-known word for what I was trying to describe.

Anyway, thanks for all the helpful infomration, everyone...I appreciate it..

curious (aka "wish I could leave my real name, but anticipate negative e-mail" :)
I think this thread captures perfectly the on-going battle between those who use this forum to get information and those who use it as a stage for infantile antics or anonymous combat.
And again for the record, I've been lurking around here for the better part of 4 years and followed the "fanny pack" chronicles among many, many others -- happen to think the Dr. Abate and "My Mother Was Drunk" threads were funnier. Lately, the "How Much to Tip the Pilot" thread is pretty good, too.

Just because someone's sense of humor doesn't operate at the crotch-grabbing, 10-yr.-old leering level, and doesn't need to say "ey, whottsamattah, you gots no sense of 'yumer, bud?" to make sure people know something's meant to be funny, doesn't mean it's lacking. On the contrary, I should think not having to say "get it? get it?" would be proof of actually having one.

The only thing maybe we should apologize for is rising to the bait that "xxx/IMO" (and all the other aliases, McFatty, etc.) throws out almost inevitably within the first few posts on any topic that isn't "what's the best restaurant?" and always makes some smartass, utterly uninformative comment about the quality of the post.

I have a neck pouch and I can't really recommend it. It's easier to see it through a shirt than it is to see the kind that hangs from your belt. I also have to agree with taking precautions against moisture.

I use the same thing that Kimerley does -- the smallish (6" x 4", or so) zipper pouch with a belt loop. Much more comfortable (and easier to access unobtrusively) than an around-the-waist model. Not big enough for a plane ticket, but fine for passport, cash, and credit cards. Mine has a choice of two belt-loops to use -- a black and a tan -- the better to blend in with belt or pants color.

You needen't be so hard on xxx. Often these "off the wall" remarks top and will bring attention to a thread that otherwise might have gone totally unanswered. You now have a thread with 20+ answers that could have just dropped to oblivion.
While I'm here: One problem that I noticed with the neck pouches is that the strap shows around your neck and everyone will see that you are wearing it. I also saw lots of women wearing them outside of thier clothes in plain sight. They probably just got tired of the hastle of keeping them under thier cloathes. This defeats the whole purpose. Pick something that you can put ALL of your valuables in and that will stay hidden.
See? I never would have seen or answered this if it hadn't been for the jokester.

Gerry

xxx's quip made me laugh. Nothing rude about it at all. Anyone who would ask a question like this ought to expect a few light jabs like this one. Fanny packs aren't exactly life or death, are they?

I think all of the serious posters like Ken ought to form a severe little club where no one smiles. The rest of us will enjoy the attempts at levity on the board.

I use the waist type and I wear it under my shirt and pants. If you put it
in the back under you pants you will not even know its there. Never take it out to pay someone, just remove the cash you need for the day each morning and your on your way. If there is something I may need during the day such as a passport I will keep that in a neck pouch.

Why can't we have both humor and info. I laughed at xxx's comment. XXX did not attack curious. Sheesh! How do some of you function in the "real" world? XXX, please keep up the "infantile antics." As long as they are funny and aren't mean, comments like that brighten this board.
