SO Paris won over Venice (the ladies rule on this trip - one graduating high school, one turning the big 5-0 next year) - and they want Paris.

And I managed to get FF tickets, flying into Rome and returning from Paris (after much much much trouble, but its done). 10 nights in Europe (12 days with travel from SFO). Leaving June 8, returning June 19 (flights booked).

Thanks to the feedback on this forum, I am 99% sure I will do this on my own (ie no tour). Likely itinerary is

4 nights in Rome
2 nights undecided (Florence ? Sorrento ? Rome with day trips ? Split between Rome/Paris ?)
4 nights in Paris


But most likely I WILL try and organize some local-guides / day tours along the way. And now I have PLENTY of time to decide...

Sounds like a great plan and you can definitely do it on your own. I would suggest if you want to add a third location do one that has easy transport links between Rome and Paris to cut down on transit time.

Personally I would split the time between Rome and Paris and do a day trip out of each to keep your logistics simple.
