What is the most time efficient way to get from Milan to Frankfurt?

What is the most efficient way to get from Milan to Frankfurt? I'd like to travel from Frankfurt back to Munich via the Romantic Road. Not sure if that will be via car or train. Any suggestions?

Hi mk,

Do you want efficient or scenic?

Depending on how one defines the term "efficient" there is air service on RyanAir but the flights leave from the Milan Orio al Serio (Bergamo)airport and fly into Frankfurt Hahn airport. The Ryanair schedule looks as if the flight leaves in the evening (around 8PM or so). Definitely a low cost way to get there but take the luggage restrictions and the actual locations of the departure and arrival points into account, too.

Efficient means flying to me. Opodo.co.uk lists LIN-FRA on Alitalia at 134 GBP (roundtrip) and just throw away the return ticket.

Ryanair flies "Milan" Orio al Serio (Bergamo) to "Frankfurt" (Hahn) for cheaper, no doubt - - but considerably less "efficient", I would think.

Best wishes,

Rex

I just priced this trip for an arbitrary time in July: about 23 Euros; that potential savings can buy a lot of other things.

I avoided explaining "efficient" because it means different things to different people. I'm very short on time so flying is preferred. However, Ryanair's points are not convenient. So, flying becomes inefficient! Maybe I should train to Salsburg on an overnight, then to Munich. Can you train from Munich to parts along the RR? Suggestions?

Yes, you can definitely use rail to get to points along the Romantic Road to include Rothenburg, Fuessen (with local public tranport to the castles) Augsburg, etc.

Why not simply take the train to Munich and stay overnight there?

Perhaps at this point it would be best to tell us just which places along the RR you are most interested in.
