what is the flea market in paris like?

is it worth a trip?

Travelnut Jan 23rd, 2008 11:42 AM

which one?

no, it's not worth a trip to me. But I don't like flea markets very much, anywhere.

there are several in Paris. I assume you mean the marches aux puces St Ouen - Porte de Clignancourt?

What are you looking for? 'Worth it' is bit too subjective

Actually I was going to post a similar thread. We're going in May and we really enjoy browsing thru 'garage sales & flea markets'.

If we were looking for @1920-1970's knick-knacks like bookends, cups or platters, letter holders, small pictures, etc which one do you recommend we go to: St-Quen; Montreuil or Vanves?

Vanves and St. Ouen are the two I know and they are both "worth it," but just be aware that you are not going to find cheap prices on anything these days..

Vanves is a lot easier to navigate, as it is basically one long strip of stalls with spillover.

For some info on the St. Ouen markets, scroll down towards the end of my report from 2006 when I spent a morning there; make sure to print out a map before you go:
