What is the easiest way to get from airport to Rialto Bridge?
Can you tell me the easiest way for 4 people to get from the airport with our luggage to our hotel near the Rialto Bridge? It doesn't necessarily have to be the shortest-I would love to take in the view coming down the canal-just the easiest for us with all our stuff. We will be there late October.

Other than a water taxi from the airport which is rather expensive, the other ways require quite a bit of PT. Boat trip from the terminal to St Mark's and then water bus to Rialto or road bus to the bus terminus and then again water bus to Rialto.

Hi S,
You can also take the bus to Piazzale Roma and pick up the no.1 vaporetto from the train station. You will have to cross a bridge.
If you are arriving at Marco Polo, you can also take the Alilaguna and pick up a vaporetto.

If you don't mind the expense, and with 4 people and luggage, then you'd want to pick up the water taxi at the Marco Polo airport dock. It will cost about 100E (maybe a bit more) to go from the airport to your hotel near Rialto (do you know whether your hotel has a water taxi entrance? if so, then so much the better-your water taxi can take you right to the door.

Easiest : Watertaxi as said above.
Price comparison:
Alilaguna airport shuttle to San Marco €11 x 4 = 44 (via Murano & Lido)
Waterbus from San Marco to Rialto €5 x 4 = 20
Total €64
Waterbus direct airport to Rialto ca. €100 (or less like 90 I heard too). If you are looking for the cheaper that's with Alilaguna but the easiest is watertaxi, minimum of hassle with your luggage.
Also if you take Alilaguna Gold Line direct from airport to San Marco, the ticket is €25 x 4(total €100 + 20 = 120). That's more expensive than a private water taxi.
Land bus (to Piazzale Roma) €2-3 + water bus €5 x 4 is the cheapest (Total €28-32) but there too the same hassle when you change from land bus to waterbus. Also I believe the best approach to Venice for the first timer is (as I did 8 years ago) via water.

I was just in Venice last week and reccommend the convenience of a Water Taxi. I don't know how crowded it will be in October, but we did notice the tourists being pushed and cramped on the Water Bus and lugging and lifting their luggage over cobblestones and across the steps of the bridges. They looked miserable.

How far is it from the terminal to the water taxi dock? I understand that there is no shuttle anymore. We're in shape and only have a roller bag so assume it's not a big deal. Appreciate any thoughts.

We took the water taxi to a dock steps from our hotel - yes, a great way to arrive in Venice! Other methods take longer and are very crowded. It is a short distance from the terminal to the boat dock along a paved, covered path. It took us less than 10 minutes to walk it with luggage.
Enjoy your trip!
