I always have an early arrival at Heathrow. Usually land around 6:30 AM - never longer than 5 or 10 min thru Customs. Hop on the tube for 8 GBP and am walking thru the front door of the B&B in the suburbs around 8 AM. Haven't been in a London traffic jam yet.

An article in Time magazine a couple of weeks ago mentioned that the price of a taxi from Heathrow to London is $100.

Update, in 2006-12, two years later than the other postings in this thread:
1. What is the cost of a regular taxi from Heathrow to central London?

2. The cost of a pre-reserved taxi from Heathrow to E1 (Aldgate) ranges from 34gbp to 45gbp, depending on the taxi company.

3. Please comment on this further twist: if you're about to get into a taxi (whether reserved or regular), there seems to be little harm in asking other people standing there if they want to share your taxi and pay half the cost.
3a. Con, mild: You might have to pay the taxi 5gbp more to have an additional passenger.

Wow, Marko99
You really dug up some antique thread! Anyway, the answers to your question depends on what time of the day you'll be travelling, and which part of London you're headed for (presume Aldgate?).

1. If you can avoid traffic jam around the airport and M25, the ballpark range for black cab would be GBP60. Could be more expensive (add 10-20%) if you're travelling at night/weekend or get stuck in the traffic.

2. The fares you've got quoted seems reasonable, compared to what we pay for W9.

3. The only official sharing scheme is at Paddington Station during the morning hours. Though you can have multiple passengers dropped off at different point in the same neighbourhood. Though I've never asked a stranger to share the cab before.
