What is the Big Bus in London?

What is the Big Bus in London? All I know is there are three routes which include the Red Route and the Blue Route. I believe it takes in the major sightseeing points in London. I did a search for "Big Bus" and didn't find anything. Will someone please shed some light on this for me?

The Big Bus does have three routes. Red, Blue and Green. Between all three they'll take you virtually anywhere in London. I think the Red Route is the longest route. There are also a couple of other tour bus companies there as well. I've got the brochures at home. Email me and I'd be happy to reply to your specific questions.

What is great about these buses is that you can get off and on as you like. We rode them to the sight we wanted to see, got off and visited and then just waited for the next bus. Then on to the next destination. It was great. You can also buy tickets to some of the busiest sights (Madame Toussauds, London Dungeon, etc.) on the bus. You may get a slight discount, but the best benefit is that you don't have to stand in queue to get in. You get to go to the head of the line. This came in very handy when the line for Madame Toussaud's was three hours long! We were able to walk right in. I always recommend to anyone visiting a new city to try one of these buses first. It is a great way to see the main sights and allow yourself some time to get used to the city and its layout.

Hope this helps!

I was just looking at the web site for Big Bus -- it's great! Music, etc, moving pictures -- unfortunately one needs Adobe Acrobat to download some of the info, but still, try it!

Donna,
That is really an excellent site. Probably would be useful for anyone visiting London. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

Hi! Can you buy tickets for Madame Toussauds on all the hop-on hop-off buses? If not, which buses sell them? Thanks.

Joan, yes you can buy tickets for Madame T's from hopper buses - they offer "Fast Track" tickets, which allow you to prepay and jump the queue!

I know for certain that Big Bus and Original London Sightseeing buses offer Madame T's specifically. If you are interested in details about the buses, including costs, etc., I just wrote an article about getting around London using hoppers and the London buses in my newsletter... you'll find it archived on my web site.

Hope this helps!

In addition to the "Big Bus", there are a couple other competitors that provide similar services of 'hop on' 'hop off' sightseeing tours throughout the city. When I was there in Nov 98, used the "Original London Sightseeing Tour".
