What is the best Michelin Map - Exploring the Luberon from Aix?
 

I've read that Michelin #332 and #340 include parts of this region. Can anyone verify this, or recommend the best map to use? We will be based in Aix-en-Provence and plan to primarily visit the Luberon villages North from Aix.

Also,
If we were to venture West towards St. Remy or Les Baux, which Michelin map would you recommend?

The map I recommend and the one I used in 2011 was

This map covers Aix and also and the Luberon. It also covers St Remy and Les Baux. To give you an idea of the coverage-Montpellier, Marseille, Avignon, Nimes, Arles, Orange, Montelimar, Ales, Cassis, Sault, Nyons and Mont Ventoux are all on the map.

If I remember correctly, I think #113 is the map that fellow Fodorite, Stu Dudley, also recommends for that region - although I can't locate the post in which he mentions it.

What is the difference between the Michelin #113 & #332 Map?

Yep - I use the 113 map. In fact, I have 4 copies of it - 3 that are worn out & 1 waiting for our next trip there.

The 113 map pretty much covers every corner of Provence that most tourists want t visit. If you use the 300 series maps you'll need 3 or 4 different maps if you plan to visit Aix, Cassis, Nimes, Aigues Mortes, Uzes, Bouches du Rhone, and the Vaucluse. If you just plan on visiting the Luberon from Aix, you'll need the 332 map for the Luberon and the 340 map for Aix & surrounds.

I find the IGN maps hard to follow if I use them as driving maps. I have many IGN maps on the scale 1/25,000 I use for hiking trails, & very local stuff.

The 300 series maps cover specific departments - usually 2 departments per map. The 332 map is for the Vaucluse and Drome departments. My 332 map covers the Luberon (Vaucuse dept) & St Remy/Les Baux areas (Bouches du Rhone dept). However, I have an older copy of the 332, and recent vintages of the 300 series maps have reduced the areas that are covered which are outside of the departments that are included on each map. St Remy/Les Baux is in the Bouches du Rhone dept, and the 332 does not cover this department. St Remy/Les Baux is probably on the newer version of the 332, but Arles may not be on it and Nimes is definitely not on the 332. Nimes will be on the 339 map and maybe on the 340 - I don't have the 340 to verify this.

113 covers all - even Montpellier.
