What is a short break?
 

I see the phrase "short break" used a lot on web sites for accomodations, but I'm not sure what a short break is. Anything shorter than a week? A weekend? <BR><BR>We are thinking about trying self-catering for our next (far in the future) trip, but not sure if we would want to stay in one place for a full week.<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR>Julie

Julie,<BR>A short break is usually a stay for a long weekend, i. e., bank holiday weekend.

I suspect you are talking about accommodations in Great Britain as both those phrases are particularly British. If they are advertising some special rate for short break or whatever, they should define the limits, but generally, I think they use that term to mean 2-3 days rather than a longer period which would be called simply a regular vacation or holiday.

Assuming you are asking about GB, short breaks are great. One problem though is they are usually only available in winter, or sometimes from late Fall through early Spring. During the main tourist seasons most places require full 7-day rentals (with the exception of London and Edinburgh where many flats rent for as few as three days)

Janis is exactly right.People who have flats or houses to rent realize that in the off-season they can make *some* money by renting for less than a week, but generally speaking, they will only do so in the off-season when they are not likely to get people to commit to a full week's rental. You can get some good deals under this scheme.I wish we had looked into this when we went to London for four days in November 2 years ago. I think it's pretty much a British thing, by the way. I've never seen American or French or Italian or other European rentals advertized this way.
