What happens if I don't take my connecting flight to Prague?
 

Trying to decide if I want to use miles for free tickets (must be round trip) or fly open jaw (and save miles for next trip). I want to start in Munich and
end in Prague. If I have a roundtrip to Prague
with a connection in Munich and didn't take the connection will my flight home be in jeopardy?
And I do know my luggage would have to be carry on so it wouldn't end up in Prague. Has anyone done this? I would much prefer this to avoid the long train ride between Prague and Munich. Thanks for any input.

How much are you paying for your RT? What airline?

USAir direct to Munich from Philly with a connection to Prague through
Luftansa or Czech Airlines. Either airline again coming home with a USAir connection into Philly. To fly open jaw has been around $75 more. On the back burner is a trip to Italy going from Venice to Naples and I'm thinking it may be better to do open jaw for that trip and use my miles for this trip. I have enough miles for 2 free tickets.

I assume you have actually checked out the rail connections Munich-Prague so will not comment on that aspect.

I doubt anything will happen to your return if you abandon the Munich-Prague segment and it should have absolutely no effect on your return because that is in a different sequence on a different date.

If you were to be THAT concerned about it you can always purposely miss the flight and then call USAirways asking what to do.

There is a very strong possibility, indeed, likelihood, that the return portion of your ticket will be bounced out of the system, (partic. for internat'l flights) if you don't show up for your return connection.

Top Man - You are a sneaky devil. ;-) I like how you think and can't believe I didn't think of that. And Spy Girl - not missing any flights for my return home..just the connection for the
flight to Prague. Anyone out there ever do this? Should I decide to do this, would I notify USAir or the airline handling the connection?

cheryl, we've used frequent flyer miles for open jaw tickets several times...have you tried? Sometimes, when booking FF flights, it helps to end the call and call right back, getting another, more helpful agent.

Doesn't matter whether you're coming or going-you miss a connection, you'll most likely bounce the remaining part of the reservation out of the system.

Of course thinking about doing this and actually doing it are two different things. Even though I wouldn't be doing anything illegal, with the heightened security issues today it probably wouldn't be wise.

With my miles it must be in and out of the
same airport. SpyGirl - I don't see how they could legally kick me out of the system.......people do legitimately miss flights.

You mentioned USAirways. If you leave and return to the same airport here, you can do open jaw in Europe. If you are flying out of one airport here and returing to another, you must go in & out of just one European airport. At least that's how I've done it and one of my trips was on USAirways. It might pay you to try again.

OR

Phila/Munich RT Munich/Prague Prague/Phila

and that you are thinking of not returning to Munich?

If your Munich/Prague RT is on a different ticket and not booked through US Air, I would call about 2 hr before flight departure and tell the airline that _____________ has caused me to not be able to leave Prague for some days.

a. Auto accident
b. Family sickness
c. Arrested
d. None of the above

I wanted to start in Munich, ending in Prague. Saw a RT into Prague with a connection in Munich. Thought about not taking the connection so I could start my
trip in Munich and fly home from Prague. Should I decide to use my miles I will have to decide if I want to fly RT into Munich or Prague. Either way I have to train between Prague and Munich so it will be a matter of traveling at the beginning or end of the trip. Judy...I'm pretty sure I was told I can't do your idea but I will call and find out.

Well, I was certainly confused.

If you are ticketed Phila/Prague and return via Munich, it is *not* a good idea to not be on the Munich to Prague leg of the trip.

cheryl, that's why I try more than one agent! Last October I went from Phila to Dublin/Shannon to Phila on USAirways FF ticket.

PS,

For $75 more, you are much better off flying open jaw into Munich and out of Prague.

When people legitimately miss flights, Cheryl, then an agent has to go back, rebook them, and their remaining reservation.

Judy - Just had it confirmed...I must fly
into and out of the same 2 airports. I'm not with USAir FF. Guess I'm back to the drawing board and will have to look at which trip to use the free tickets.
