What happened to the Love Locks?

When the city decided to remove the love locks from Pont des Arts, they were not really sure what to do with them. I have read that they could not be melted and the metal reused so they apparently became a large landfill issue.

However, some creative minds decided to monetize their removal and sell the lock at action. One example is being auctioned on Monday, the 9th at Drouot in the 9th arrondissement of Paris.

The above work of art is estimated to be valued between 3,000€ and 3,200€.

The catalog may be downloaded here. Look for Lot #314. It is possible to place a bid on line anytime before the actual auction.

Money raised from the sale is to be donated to charity, specifically one established to help immigrants coming to Paris.

I hated those locks. In Feb we walked across the Pont Neuf bridge often and they are hanging them from the beautiful lights on that bridge now,

I checked out the price of locks on Amazon, and now I'm thinking of going into art forgery.

and that lock the love lock stuff has spread all over the world it seems. Good for lock business but lots of problems for towns. Kind of a nice idea to start that has got out of control.

I hated them too and I hate that still they're allowed on the Mittlere Brücke in Basel.

The city of Pécs claims to have started the trend. It has nothing to do with any romantic notion. It was a way for students to celebrate the end of their studies by taking their locker locks and attaching them to a public fence.

Fads come and go. While certain areas of the globe will be late, this one is coming to an abrupt end. I certainly would not buy any "love lock art" because it will soon be worthless. I would just as soon open a fidget spinner museum.

Yeah I hope the next fad that dies down is spelling out the name of the city in big block letters! Mexico has them everywhere, and now I see them in Europe too.
