What happened to Maxjet?
I'm cross posting here. But it seems like Maxjet has cancelled all flights yesterday 7/5 and today 7/6. Anybody knows what's going on?
|
There are some comments on www.airlinequality.com that seem to indicate that the (sole?) Maxjet plane is in for repairs, so Maxjet has been bumping some passengers to another airline (e.g. Virgin) or using another plane that doesn't offer the level of comfort and service that Maxjet was offering.
You might also want to search on flyertalk.com (maybe in the London forum but also in the BA forum, which sometimes has an active Off-topic Maxjet thread) to see if there is any other useful information or tips. |
I'm trying to gather more information. Seems like both of their 767s have serious mechanical issues, so they're basically grounded.
No flight STN-JFK 7/5 and 7/6. STN->LAS operated 7/5, but no sign that the eastbound flight operated. No flight STN-IAD 7/5 and 7/6. What's more, some of the IAD flights in the last month have been flown on 757-200 and 737-800, which they do not have. So, looks like they have issues before this week, and have been chartering other planes. What's amazing is that this has not been picked up by the press or on most travel sites. In contrast to articles after articles when Maxjet started operating. And just a few days ago on fodors.com, when someone asked what's the best way to fly London - Washington, several fodorites jumped in and recommend Maxjet. Unfortunately, I can't find that thread right now. |
The plot thickens:
Last nights' LAS-STN, flight 701 was in NE Canada when it suffered another mechanical problem. It diverted to Gander, and may be still there. Another plane ferried from Stansted to Atlanta, then operated ATL-MAN-NBO (Nairobi). According to someone on airliners.net, it was a private charter by Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Very interesting! |
So the upstarts Maxjet and FlyGlobespan have both had recent serious delay issues (although FGS is worse by far).

American Airlines -- who just announced their competing business-only service -- must be rubbing their hands with glee right about now.

No, AA's new JFK-STN service is regular 763 with business and economy cabins (30/191).
