What footwear do Europeans wear in the Southwest US? - Starrsville's Somewhat Scientific Study

I posted this on the US forum. In case others are interested...

So much conversation on this topic regarding "us" traveling to Europe, I spent my hours as sister shopped at Cameron Trading Post to conduct a study.

86% wore trainers/ tennis shoes/ sneakers of some type or color
9% wore Birkenstock or Merrill type sandals or slides
4% wore flip-flops
less than 1% wore a shoe with an actual heel - most interestingly a silver/ white/ tooled cowboy boot on a woman

I did not notice anyone visibly concerned about their footwear or other attire. I did notice very interesting choices of souvenirs to take "home".

So what were their souvenirs of choice? Enquiring minds need to know...

I've lived in Texas for 25 years. A few years ago I was in a Western wear store buying "western" jeans for a kid's dance costume. We had been in Paris a few weeks prior. It was funny to me when a big group of French tourists came in, all buying cowboy boots. In all my years in Texas, I've never owned cowboy boots!

I have a friend in the region of Veneto who when visiting me has purchased cowboy boots, Stetson hats etc. And he sure doesn't look like a cowboy, lol.

LoveItaly, my San Francisco friend wore cowboy boots under her wedding dress. Married at a BIG Catholic church downtown and reception at the Presidio (spelling?). I was aghast - this was 20 years ago almost. But, she fell in love with line dancing when we lived in Dallas and by doggie, she was going to wear her boots!

Now, I am proud she didn't listen to the likes of me! Reminded me of the cowboy boots on the lady in Cameron!

What Europeans were wearing in the US last summer

Interesting but one question comes to mind..how did you KNOW they were Europeans?

As described in the US post, I had about 3 hours to kill while my sister shopped. I quickly became bored, so started this experiment. I listened for the languages being spoken.
