The idea of recommending M&S to a (presumably impoverished) student is mind-boggling.
If he really is as feckless and unquerying as his mother presents him (are there really students so tied to their parents' apron strings they daren't risk a different brand of packaged cheese and pasta?), he'll be thrown into catatonic shock at the sight of a food shop where absolutely nothing carries a brand he recognises.
And if he can afford M&S prices, someone's subsidising him too much.
Kraft Cheesy Pasta ISN'T the same recipe as Kraft Mac & Cheese. The US product is lower in fat, but higher in salt and sugar, than the European product (UK law doesn't require the country of origin to be declared), so the cheese sauces are likely to taste different.
Kraft Mac & Cheese (the US recipe) can be bought effortlessly, though ruinously expensively, from Amazon.co.uk. Though a strict interpretation of Defra's rules means individuals can't import it from outside Europe, those rules are different from those corporations can follow. Corporations (including small shops) can get clearance for non-European meat, fish and dairy on a product by product basis, which is why US-recipe processed foods can be found in Britain even though individuals can't bring them in. Both the US and Canadian authorities operate similar policies.

Here's a link to a pretty through guide. Those saying only fresh meat etc is covered, are wrong. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/si...nging-food.pdf
You cannot bring in any type of meat or dairy from US, no matter how processed. Please don't try to sneak stuff in - there are good reasons for these controls, and if you get caught there are some unpleasant fines.
Your son will just have to find UK brands, it won't kill him.

MNMaui, please tell us what happened. What did you bring? What could be found here. How is your son doing with UK food, and so on. The sad part of this forum is that we never know what happened. Me and I parter replied above using her login, so I am interested to outcome. I am a teacher in the UK and every year we have students celebrating their parents coming to the UK with food ( + cooking labour)to make them happy.).
