what else besides Paris

Planning a possible honeymoon in Paris for late October 2007. We will have maybe 7 or 8 nights maximum. We would probably do 5 nights in Paris.

Where is the best spot for an additional two nights somewhere out in the country? Normandy? Burgundy? Elsewhere?
Which one is more romantic?

On one hand, I'm dying to see the D-day beaches (but thats not really a good honeymoon activity) and on the other hand, we would enjoy a day of wine tasting, etc.?

My suggestion would be to take a drive to the Loire Valley.

Some possibilities would be to drive to Chartres to see the magnificent cathedral. You could then continue on to the Loire Valley...Chambord is just about 90 minutes from Chartres..a fabulous chateaux.

Also, about one hour from Chambord is Amboise. The road to Amboise has lots of wine caves for tasting the terrific Loire wines, and you could also visit Leonardo Da Vinci's home in Amboise...a lovely spot.

The Loire Valley is perfect. Chambord, Amboise, Chenonceau, and Cheverny are all wonderful. The LDV home/museum (Amboise) is worthwhile. Chenonceau is my favorite. Very romantic. Look into staying in a privately owned chateau. Best Wishes!
