What does topping mean?

Hello everybody, I am relatively new to the boards and I cannot figure out what "topping " means. I thought it meant the same or an agreement but then others use it in a different manner, so please be kind and patient for I am not a "troll", I am just confused. Also I leave in 2 weeks for Cheltenham and London. Has anyone stayed in the Montpellier area in Cheltenham. Thanks!!!!!!!!

It means bringing a post to the top of the list by replying to it. A lot of people do that once a message drops off the first screen.

Fodors' list of posts is arranged in order of the most recent reply. So when a thread is sinking into oblivion, any reply at all brings it to the TOP. So anyone who wants a thread brought to the top, but has nothing else to say about it, just plain "tops" it.

This is topping.

This thread is currently number 9 on the list (left hand side of the screen). By responding to it, I am moving back up "to the top", to number one.

Topping is inherently not answering the question, though even an swer tops a question also.
"Topping" is an expression reguarly used by the English upper class whilst at public school, meaning Good etc...

Ketchup on a hamburger, wet walnuts on ice cream, butter on a baked potato are some examples of toppings.
