What does it mean IMO, LOL, etc...?

What do you mean when yo say IMO, IMHO, LOL, and other abbreviations?

I'm afraid I'm missing a lot of things for not to know this special words.

Can you put a list of them?

Thanks!!!!

GeoffHamer May 10th, 2006 06:25 AM

These are used by people who want to use a cliché but can't be bothered to type it. "IMO" seems to mean "in my opinion"; "IMHO" is "in my honest opinion" or "in my humble opinion"; "LOL" apparently means "laugh out loud" though people use it for something that wouldn't even make you smile out loud. In my view, if people can't be bothered to say what they mean, I can't be bothered to try to translate.

bookchick May 10th, 2006 06:26 AM

IMO = in my opinion

IMHO = in my humble opinion

LOL = laugh out loud

DH= dear husband

LW = loving wife

BTW = by the way

TTT = to the top, bringing a post up to the top of the list on the forum so that others can see it and respond to it

janisj May 10th, 2006 06:27 AM

Ignore Robiespierre - From your other posts it is pretty obvious you are not a "troll"

A few:

LOL = Laughing out loud
IMHO, IMO = In my humble opinion, In my opinion
DH, DW, DD, DS - dear (or darling) husband, wife, daughter, son
ttt = To The Top (bringing a thread to the top of the list)

I was posting the same time as bookchick and geoffhamer. There are many other useful abbreviations - which others confuse you?

Robespierre May 10th, 2006 06:57 AM

You left out a couple of adjectives.

ira May 10th, 2006 07:15 AM

Hi H,

IIRC = If I Recall Correctly

OTOH = On the Other Hand

ROFL = Rolling On Floor Laughing

ie = That is to say

eg = For example

SWAK = Sealed With A Kiss

((I))

FWIW - - for what it's worth

FCUK - - French Connection United Kingdom - - not really used so much on this forum, but a popular clothing line in Europe whose acronym is seen on sweatshirts and billboards everywhere

WTF - - World Taekwondo Federation... LOL - - they actually do use this acronym (also).

Best wishes,

Rex

This seems a good occasion to ask what this means. Obviously I have no idea and couldn't find it anywhere.

it was used in a recent thread. I think it is

PFTHHHT

sorry if I misquoted whoever used it ;;) Deborah

laclaire May 10th, 2006 11:00 AM

When I first started using the internet, I thought that LOL meant "little old lady."

Robespierre May 10th, 2006 11:02 AM

cmt, you need to join the American Association to Abolish And Abandon Acronym Abuse And Ambiguity.

GreenDragon May 10th, 2006 11:26 AM

Don't forget AFAIK - as far as I know

IANAL - I am not a lawyer (usually followed by stupid 'legal' advice)

I've seen D used with many things, Dear Husband, Dear Wife, Dear Daughter, etc.

IMNSHO (in my not-so-humble opinion)

FWIW (for what it's worth) I thought LOL meant Lots of Love till recently.
Do you agree there are too many TLA's on this post?
