What does a non-drinker say when offered vino?

I'm not recovering, I just don't drink much, nor does my husband. As many times as we've been to Italy, we've never felt uncomfortable declining wine with meals.
'Tain't no big thing, I promise!

Hey all, I started this thread and am AMAZED at all the great responses. I just didn't want to rub the locals the wrong way. Thanks...I feel confident this will not be a problem...no need to continue the thread.
PS: Is there a way to "subscribe" to these Fodor's threads and be notified via email when a message gets posted? I do that on other forums, but cannot find that option here.

2 weeks ago I was on a cruise and I had to say, I can't drink because of the medications I'm taking.
Unfortunately, it was true then
My husband doesn't drink, sometimes I don't feel like it either, and we just decline, saying "thank you, but we'll have something non-alcoholic".
We don't feel we have to explain why. If somebody doesn't like it, well, too bad!

I am of the 'no thank you' is sufficient school of thought. But I do think it is better if you order SOMEthing to drink. Fizzy water would be perfect & would make even smoother the not ordering wine, imo. If you can do it in Italian, even better!
