What do you think re: this week's poll on getting money overseas?
How are all you armchair sociologists out there? Wondering what you might make of the results of the weekly poll on getting money overseas, esp. the male vs. female splits. As of today (12/13), more men than women get their money from banks and currency vendors, while more women than men use travellers' checques (big difference there) and ATM's or bring their own cash. Got any guesses why?
A couple of guesses:
More of the men who responded might be business travelers who don't care that it costs them more.
The category doesn't divide between travelers checks and ATM's so what does that mean?
The numbers for banks and currency vendors are very small, I don't think the male/female thing is significant.

Also, Patrick, TC and ATM ARE different.

I was going to complain about needing to vote again to see the results, but it turns out you can only vote once from a particular computer, so you won't mess up the vote by checking again.
I guess I wasn't clear. I agree that TC's and ATM's are VASTLY different. What I meant was that by lumping these two together, it doesn't really mean anything -- saying these people use ATM's OR TC's, I'd like to know which! Maybe all those people use ATM's, maybe they all use TC's. They should be totally broken apart.
Duh, now I feel really stupid. From Mart's comment I got the impression that ATM's and TC's were linked together in the poll. I just looked at it and see that they weren't.

The current results of the poll show a huge majority favoring ATM's. The 8 men and 4 women who say they get theirs from a bank is too small of a sample to mean anything about comparing the sexes -- I agree with Liz!
Is there any way we can see the results of the weekly polls at the end of the week to find out what those results are?
Those polls don't mean anything because there is no scientific sampling methodology.

However, what really does NOT make sense is the designation of currency vendor as a separate category vs. TCs. What does that mean--I use TCs at times and always cash them at a currency vendor, and bringing your own cash would also have to be exchanged somewhere.

I think FOdor's polls are lame.
The question is also flawed. I prefer an ATM, but they're often not available where I travel. So how should I answer the question?
