What do you think of Rotterdam?
I have a chance to visit Rotterdam next summer and am trying to get a handle on what the city is like. I did a search for past threads, but most of the results were generic comments like, "Rotterdam is a good day trip from Amsterdam," or "Rotterdam is a nice city."<BR><BR>Has anyone spent much time there? What was your opinion -- exciting, ho-hum, or something in between? What did you like or dislike about it?

Can't tell you a lot from my own experience, but here's what I know. It has interesting architecture in the older part of town. It has good museums. It has a great art gallery called the Von Boymans, and if you like good art you won't want to miss it. The restaurants are good, and in general it gives the impression of a clean, fairly modern, progressive city. To me, the Dutch have been friendly wherever I go, and Rotterdam is no exception.

I lived near Rotterdam (in Dordrecht) for 9 months and hated it. I found Rotterdam a very dull city. Though I did enjoy being able to ride my bike to Kinderdijk whenever I wanted to, also enjoyed The Hague (and Scheveningen), Utrecht (student town), day trips of course to Amsterdam (best in the early morning before the crowds arrived, VondelPark and museums to die for), Delft and Antwerpen and Bruges, Belgium. Very fast to get to Paris and Brussels on the TGV.

Hi,<BR>if you come over from the US - you dont have to spend your precoius vacation days in Rotterdam. At Rotterdam you will find europes biggest seaport with tremendous industrie. Though you will fine typically dutch architecture, you will find them too in Gouda(the dutch cheese city). Skip Rotterdam for Gouda or go to Sheveningen/The Hague.<BR>More infos?<BR>Shain/Germany/Düsseldorf
