I believe her about the packing, right now, I have practice packed for a trip in december--a lot of clothes, no shoes yet, still deciding which to bring--but it all fit with a little room in my large timbuk2 bag--the messenger one. I'm not bringing it, but am having the age old roller vs backpack debate with myself and was using it to put inside the other two (odd i know).
Comfortable walking shoes--I love Cole Haan flats, been dying to try the Nike sole ones--which aren't so ugly. I have a high arch, so I need to put an insole into anything I wear, but I just got these in black from JCrew http://tinyurl.com/o6q3g
They are amazingly comfortable, and don't need to be "broken in"
Not to be catty or snide or anything, but I can't believe that for some one who makes such a huge deal about being fashionable/how much fashion is important to her, she hasn't figured out that tailors can tailor a jacket. I'm short (5'3", but have freakishly broad shoulders from swimming, and long arms so I can't wear petite stuff, I just get everything tailored to fit me so it doesn't look boxy/lumpy/ill fitting. But then again, i'm not a fashionista.

For those still looking for shoes, I have a recommendation to make. I just bought the following:
Softwalk Lafon Mary Janes
http://www.footsmart.com/Product.aspx?ProductId=3166
I wear a size 12 regular width normally. My foot is between regular and wide. In Softwalk, I take an 11W. I just received these in the mail last week and have been breaking them in at home ever since. They are <i>very</i> comfortable and I think they'll be a great walking shoe on our trip next week. I've tried them on with jeans and dress pants and they look great with both. I have beige, black and grey socks to wear with them, and I'll also wear them barefoot or with knee highs or a sockette.

Travelbug...good for you! I settled on the Rockport Granite boots. They are some what cute! Unfortunately, I have had to wear them in the middle of the summer and just suffer in the heat in my effort to ensure that they are broken in and comfy before my trip. I notice that Samanta Brown from Passport to Europe wears a similar pair in almost every single show that she does. She does the stacked heel boot with square toe thing well with slacks as well as jeans. Your shoes are cute! I saw a pair of rockports that were very similar but they had a narrow wedge heel...not stable enough for cobblestones but very cute! Anyway...congrats on your shoes!

Hckypris98,
Just wanted to wish you pleasant travels, as I know you leave very soon (next week I think). I leave myself in 3 and a half weeks and am firming up my own packing list as well.
Please update us on your trip and how all the shoes worked out;-)
Wow, how times fly, and I can't believe we've been talking about shoes for a month and a half!!
Bon voyage!

hkypris98,
Thanks for starting this thread! I'm leaving for a rather sudden trip to London in exactly two weeks and I am using your list as a guideline for my packing. I'm a notorious over packer and this should help me with that. Your style sounds very similar to mine.

Sarah...no sweat!!! I am a notorious serious over packer too...which is why i tend to overthink and over analyze...just so that i am just a little over packed versus my totally overpacked. ha ha!!! I am glad that this string helped you...some of this string has just angered me cuz there have been plenty of "know it alls...smartallick comments" on this Fodors site that ridicule others for asking simple questions. Nevermind that there are a lot more people out there that just need help and are just asking for it and just need an answer...not a "whipping" for asking a common question. I say ask away...it can't hurt...right?
