What did you learn during your expat years (months)?

I learned that I really didn't need a television in a restaurant or bar to be entertained. Conversation really is more enjoyable. Once I moved back to the States, and to this day, I try to avoid those places with loud T.V.'s, or the constant flickering of a screen with no sound.
