What destination do you recommend for April?
We have 10 days in mid-April, and would like a vacation in a location with (hopefully) good weather, that will include city and country, something unusual (We've already been to Paris, Tuscany, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Santorini, London, Belgium). Do you have any recommendations? I was thinking of Scotland/Ireland, but the weather there might be too cold... Thanks! Shari

That includes Holy Week. No question in my mind--Andalusia. I will be in central Spain the same time this year.

Topping for smasafy. And how about Rome? It'll be jammed for Easter, but maybe you're religious?

This may be a little too unusual, but have you considered Malta? I was there last January, and the winter weather was pleasant (in the 50's and 60's). In April, it will generally be in the low to mid-60's and rainfall should be minimal.

Malta is a very small island, and I have found that people either love it or hate it. I loved it, but a friend thought it was just a big gray rock in the Mediterranean. If you like architecture and history, you may like it. You can also take a ferry over to Sicily for a day trip or a few days.

For more info:

aboutmalta.com, visitmalta.com, and maltaweather.com

Since you mention "something unusual," how about Morocco? Marrakech is fascinating, and you can take inexpensive side trips into the countryside with private guides. The weather's great, and there won't be any interruptions for Easter. And it's a bargain.

We visited last April. If you enjoy gardens the Keukenhof Garden near Lisle Netherlands is not to be missed. Threave Garden at Castle Douglas, in SW Scotland and the Royal Garden in Edinburgh both had lovely displays of early flowers. Any day in Scotland is a day well spent, a day in Keukenhof is magic. Have a grand time!
