What City Should I Visit Next?
 

I love to travel alone, I am a 71 yr old senior lady. I don't have the energy for a bus trip around a country. I find I do best if I visit one city for 7-8 nights, stay in the same hotel, and see the sights at my energy level. In the past five years I have visited London, Paris, Rome, Edinburgh and Dublin. I want to keep my travels to Western Europe. Any suggestions?

Since you have tagged this "France," I'll assume that's your country of choice and will suggest Lyon.

If tagging it was a mistake, in addition to Lyon I'd suggest Prague, Berlin, and Amsterdam.

if we're looking outside France, i agree with StCirq's choices, to which I would add Vienna, Barcelona, Venice.

if France, what about Bordeaux, Nice, Avignon, Toulouse, Strasbourg, ..

they should keep you busy.

StCirq took the words out of my mouth. Since you stay in one city for 7-8 days I think you need a larger city to find enough to keep you occupied and interested. The above cities would be my first destinations. After these you might consider Barcelona, Madrid or Vienna. If you decide return to Italy then Florence and Venice. Perhaps Brussels.

I'd suggest Prague or Vienna or Seville. For France, probably Lyon or Nice.

Depending upon your interests, I find Florence and Venice to be very easy to visit. They have fairly compact centers, easy walking distances and much to see in a relatively manageable area. Florence is my special favorite and has the most wonderful food.

Another vote for Barcelona.

Scandinavia is very safe and English is widely spoken, how about Copenhagen and Stockholm?

Other ideas: Vienna and Salzburg. Or south of France: Nice, Antibes, Monaco.

For 7 or 8 days I think you need to stick to larger cities. Stockholm would be a good choice - as would Venice, Berlin or Prague. None is super hilly and all have fairly compact centers, as well as boat trips or easy day trips nearby.

Another vote for Vienna.

If there are no restrictions on your mobility, then I strongly suggest Venice, as it is a difficult town to manuever around for the mobility challenged, so going there sooner than later is advised. It's not that Venice is inherantly that much better than any of the other fine suggestions in this thread, rather, just that the other cities will be easier to visit as we age. Being Northern Italy, I found it to be very tourist friendly and safe. Such a denisty of amazing architecture! You will not lack for things to see and do while there.
