What can you see out of your window now?

Nancy,
Thank you for that lovely memory (primarily) of my childhood in Michigan.
I'm home now in Florida. stalling...
It's suppose to get down to 17F (real temp) - sans the actual beauty of snow to boot. I have to bring all my gazillion "house" plants/trees in.
Guess I'll stuff them into the kitchen and make a path to the sink and frig...
zen is a good thing.
the sound of snow falling is so very comforting...
(for all you poor guys stuck on the roads and in the airports, sorry for all the sentimental gibberish!)

Sharon,
hope your plants survived, yourkitchen must of smelled and looked great, like a jungle.
Early this morning we had some snow (under 6 ")
Now it is sunny and windy.
The school district , once again, had a moment of panic and gave in to the bus company, and called off school.
Snow days are lots of fun, for young and old, but I think the powers that be forget we live in Vermomt!!
I enjoy rereading this thread, because it reminds me how far flung we all are.

Other things I like about snow: the way it crunches under one's feet; watching my brown lab leap through the snow. Another subtle nuance I love about snow falling in NYC: the numerous shadows cast upon untrampled snow by street lamps. (I also love NYC during a misty light rain fall at night - lights reflected off wet pavement) According to a weather web site I logged onto this morning it snowed in Budapest - I hope to see that in my life time. Any other Fodorites have any special places they wish to see snowy?

Come on, Mark, the sound of snow falling and a "brown" Lab? Think of Belgium or Perugia - Ah, there you go, a chocolate Lab!! I might get a chance to hear snow falling here in central Florida - it is now bright and sunny and about 40F but with a little moisture, it could happen. Also grew up in Michigan.

I've never been in falling snow!!!! I have been in places where it has RECENTLY snowed but never stood under falling snow.... today it's 76 f. hot, sunny and dry as a bone... my dearest dream is to travel to England for Christmas and see it all snowy.... like Dickens or something...*sigh, have to go pick dead pine needles off my carpet

Hey Larry - I grew up in Tampa, Florida. I remember back in the mid 70's it snowed in Tampa. When I first moved north I was a bit concerned about the winters - now I find the snow doesn't bother me nearly as much as humidity. I suppose the strawberry farmers will be ice-ing their strawberry plants tonight. We had a light dusting here in NYC - not nearly enough as far as I'm concerned.
