Am in Fargo, N.D. -- temp is below zero. My window only leads to a hallway, but on my walls I have photos of the Gateway Arch (St. Louis), Devil's Tower (Wyoming), Panama City Beach (Florida), spouse and I on a Calif. beach, spouse and I in New Mexico, spouse at Lake Superior. Do you understand my motivations??

I am looking at my backyard. At the end of the driveway under the crab-apple tree is a very large mound of snow. My car is under it. Gotta start digging...*sigh*

I am looking out a window at the Iowa high school at which I teach and see lots of flat fields covered in deep snow. Lots and lots of white for the rest of the winter. Maybe a little blue now and then if the sky cooperates. I guess it helps us appreciate the vibrancy of Spring! Happy Holidays, all!

Nancy, I got a good chuckle out of your description of the Vermont landscape ("ubiquitous junk car and rusty dead farm equipment.") My boyfriend used to live in the Northeast Kingdom, so I'm quite familiar. I love Vermont,though!

From my cube, I usually have quite a breathtaking view out of the 26th floor of my office building in Boston. Today, however, we are in the middle of a snowstorm, so I can barely see the "State Street Bank" sign lit up on its building, which is less than a block away. It's winter in New England!

My office is on top of a mountain in southern New Hampshire; when I answered this question last fall, the leaves were just starting to turn and there was concern about how colorful our fall would be after such a rainy summer. It was glorious, but has come and gone of course. My view now is of our first snow on those same mountains and trees, some ice-covered; and because daylight savings time has ended and it’s dark when I leave for home, I get to see twinkling lights as more and more homes are built on the sides of this mountain and the mountain ranges that make up this magnificent 360-degree view.

I can see a yucca in full bloom, the landscape guys putting in flowers along the office's driveway, and further out, Phoenix's skyline. The only snow I've seen is the static on my TV. At night, I can see the atomic-like glow from all the neighborhoods that have drenched themselves in cheap twinkling lights, lighted Santas, and flashing creches from which Baby Jesus waves to passers-by. Merry Cheap and Cheezy Christmas from the Valley of the Sun.

This is not out my window, but, this morning I woke up to a whole different world outside.

I live near Washington DC and we had an ice storm last night. Danger aside, it was SO BEAUTIFUL out there!

each blade of grass, each brown leaf, whether still futilely clinging to a tree or on the ground, each little red berry on the bushes lining the sidewalk... were encased in ice.

I walked to the metro and walked under some pine trees (not sure the kind - the ones with the LOOOONG needles, kinda fringey) and that tree was so overloaded the branches/needles were maybe 3 feet from the ground - I had to duck way down to walk under them.

naturally my digital camera battery was in dire need of a charge up. heavy sigh.

The window directly in front of me has a view of the car I drove to work--a 2001 Saturn LS2. Nice, but not my car. My 1967 VW Beetle is sitting at a towing company after the nasty wreck I had a week ago. (The rather slow typing is due to the broken collerbone!) To my right, the window view isn't much better. A gloomy, misty day here in Aiken, South Carolina. I see some brown leaves rustling on the ground. The occassional dog (we have about 4 out here) running after a squirrel. I can see the boss's house and our supply shed. (I work in a small office for a plumbing and electrical contractor on their land.) I have some great 80's radio hits playing on the cd player. Next to me is a 1 foot Christmas tree with fiberoptics that change colors. (Even the Christmas trees are high-tech nowadays!) Soon I will head into downtown Aiken for lunch.....*tummy grumbling*

Northeast Kingdom is like another world from the rest of VT, (which they who live there would consider a *good* thing!)
but it is truly beautiful up there!And in all of VT also.

Here in Battery Park, NYC I look out over West Side Highway at the base of the Twin Towers. Another building facing where I work is encased in scaffolding with is covered with netting which is rippling, like water, due to the wind - in the afternoon winter sunlight (pale yellow white - makes me think of Paris) - it really is beautiful.

I live in Western Washington and today the rain has begun and the ever unpopular weather fella' says it's a sure thing for the next five days.

As much as I rationalize about my fabulous Evergreen state, I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have gotten the Prozac refilled last month. It is three and a half months until Mazatlan (or Rome perhaps if I dared be bad and ditched my family beach lay-about), a year until Andalucia...oh well, I've got a good fire going and thank God we got the new roof nailed on last September so I don't have to listen to that drip, drip sound through Christmas again. Well, cheers, everyone.

It's pitch black at the moment, but when there was light, I was looking at 5 white-tailed deer feeding between the house and the pond, a recently harvested corn field and about 15 broken tree limbs which were casualties of last night's ice storm in western Maryland, USA. Neat question - Thanks!

I'm sitting in my office on the 13th Floor (we have no problem in Australia numbering a floor 13!!) looking out the window at the State Government Parliamentary Buildings and three other beautiful heritage listed buildings, across the suburbs to the rolling hills of the Darling Range. The sun is shining, it's expected to get to 32C today and we are waiting for 11.45am to head off to our Christmas lunch across the Swan River to a restaurant in South Perth with spectacular views of the City of Perth. Perth is definitely where the heart is, despite the heat.

I am sitting on the balcony of my beach house in Gracetown (Margaret River Region) south west Western Australia. There are whales gambolling off the South Point of the bay, and surfers on the waves at North Point. Fresh south westerly breeze, 29degrees C, chatting with friends over a glass of Margaret River red wine. (Pics on request) come and stay here - best place on earth

Today when I first read this thread, I was looking over a smallish courtyard parking lot surounded by square, yellow brick buildings. The roof outside my window is swathed in snow, as are the roofs of the surrounding buildings.
I'm in Buffalo, but it could just as likely be Tokyo or Minsk, such is the nature of modern, cheap governmental architecture.

I am looking out my window at the Happy Valley race track in Hong Kong, where they had the world's longest Chinese dragon last new year's eve. Green hills covered by high-rise buildings surround the race track, and it's an overcast day here, around 60 degrees.
